LuckyMiao was created between Japanese old and modern culture to visually represent Japanese visual arts. In general, luck is the key to controlling the main destiny in one's life; it can also be described as a possibility or chance. In Japanese culture, luck and fortune play a huge part in people's daily lives. The Japanese’s belief in luck and fortune has birthed many objects that have become visually representative of Japan over the years.
In the LuckyMiao Gashapon store, we have combined the concept of Japanese belief in luck with the modern Japanese gashapon culture. The LuckyMiao gashapon machine has a total of 7 gachas consisting of a Japanese lucky trinket paired with an omikuji, as 7 is a lucky number in Japanese culture. We have based our gashapon machine on the maneki-neko which is believed to invite luck and good fortune with its beckoning paw.

This journey of data collection was done in a foreign country, Japan. Throughout the data collection process, it can be stated that it was an honourable experience as we got the opportunity to travel to Japan for a study trip. Overall, the data gathering procedure was pretty entertaining and eye-opening; we truly encountered a lot of Japanese visual cultural aspects. Also, we captured several video clips for data collection and our life diary, let's enjoy the happiness together! ✨
